Hiram Green, director of community engagement for 无码专区 Health and director of public relations for the 无码专区 Health Taneja College of Pharmacy, received an award for scholarship and selfless service from the 无码专区 Committee on Black Affairs.
Green was one of three 无码专区 staff and faculty members to receive annual awards in 2024.
COBA is responsible for advising the 无码专区 president on matters affecting Black faculty, staff, student and alumni of the university, One 无码专区, and the greater Tampa Bay community. The committee also advises the president regarding the university鈥檚 relationship with the Black community.
Green has been a key figure at the university for more than 40 years. He鈥檚 held positions at 无码专区 Athletics and the 无码专区 Alumni Association, and served as director of the Ambassador Program where he started revenue generating programs for the 无码专区 Alumni Association.
His most notable contribution is his effort with the TCOP Working Group Enhancing Community Advocacy Research Education (WE-CARE) program, an initiative focused on enhancing health outcomes within minority communities by boosting minority enrollment and involvement in research endeavors. Green is essential in developing training on IRB and the research process for students and the community as well as developing and marketing health-focused workshops for the community.
Green served on the boards of directors of the American Heart Association, ALS Association, and East Tampa Partnership. He currently serves as a board member of the Salvation Army.
He and his wife Freida started the Set the Captive Free scholarship at 无码专区, an endowment for Embracing Legacy to provide financial support to 无码专区 students.
Elizabeth Hordge-Freeman, PhD, associate professor of sociology at the College of Arts and Sciences, and Maya Trotz, PhD, professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the College of Engineering, also received COBA annual awards.
